Or Here By ibleedv3.0 Omnilinkit Out of the desert and into a new game As a long time gamer and COD enthusiast in particular I recently have realized how narrow my gaming interests have become and how captured I have been. Captured by a great game series that has delivered countless hours of pure enjoyment. But as wonderful as the COD series has been it seems that, for me,some good thing has come to an end. And I know many other gamers are feeling the same way.Even with the next Treyarch release coming down the pike in some form or fashion. Actually, in some ways, I feel a sense of gratitude to Activision and IW for taking intrinsic quality out of the game with the release of MW2. By stripping out the marrow of the game it has allowed me to have a moment of clarity and this game junkie has seen the future. Not only have I seen the dark end of the tunnel but I have taken a jackhammer and opened a fork in it before I crash. The monkey that just flew off my back had better be wearing a helmet. But like all addicts I needed something to go to to help me with the transition. And that something is BFBC2 No This is not a review or a plug for the game.It is much too early for that. Intrinsically I know that BF is good enough. Of course it's not perfect. Of course it takes a different approach to gaming But most importantly to me....It's not COD. A few weeks ago after attending and casting from the Nerv3 lan I spontaneously remarked to jockyitch from Bashandslash "I have no game" Sure I still love COD4 but that blurt was the moment of clarity that signalled the death of the game series for me. And now as the mourning process recedes I have to ask what has been the damage as I transition from COD to FPS gamer. Certainly as my hands relearn how to spread out over the keyboard to adapt to BFBC2 there will be a period of considerable pain as my rehab moves forward. And I am sure there will be some anxiety as I try and fit in to a BFBC2 squad somewhere. And my distrust towards developers and publishers will have to be mitigated by the commitment to not keep all my eggs in one basket. I am an FPS gamer now and I am not beholden to any one game. Unlike many recovering gamers that would convert others I won't become a zealot and try and convince people to make my change. You see this is gaming and gaming is first and foremost about fun. But living or dying by the next release from one publishing house is no longer a fun way to game in this era of monetization and ranking systems that would have you drink their kool-aide. And by being an FPS gamer I feel empowered and I don't have to go gameless as I make a statement with my wallet when I tell the developers that their product sucks. Buying nothing does nothing but buying the best of what is offered tells the developers what direction gaming should head in. If Treyarch should deliver a quality game that suits my needs then I will be a COD gamer once again. But always from now on I will be an FPS gamer first and foremost. The COD community as a whole will be around a long time even if the mappers and modders work with previously released content. But eventually I know the community will have to recover and some already are. With all the great talent the community has to offer and if it's core sites move forward with a multigaming emphasis a new and familiar greater FPS community can be developed where a lot of familiar faces and voices will be recognized. And heard. And like any competitive gamer's brain I think it would thrive and dominate as the FPS community In the FPS gaming world the COD community has been the most brilliant and prolific content creators of all I beleive. It is not COD that is the community it is the people and the personalities themselves that are the focus and the nexus for the game. Something is going to change in the next year and I hope to see all of you in-game with multiple titles on your clan sites. I hope to be trolling the same major sites getting my Gaming information for multiple games. Many are going to be playing BFBC2.And hopefully in time it will allow mappers and modders to once again create new community content. Or hopefully Treyarch will provide the correct environement for the creation of that content. Or maybe AVP's is your cup of tea. Maybe Brink with it's promise of dedicated servers will suffice. Or Maybe MOH's new offering is the juice you crave. There will be more and it would be nice for the greatest gaming community alive to find it's new groove together. I think it's the new way of survival for any gaming community today. Or we all could play WOW and never make it to work tommorrow. Treyarch has made some promise of PC gaming support. But what the hell that means is nebulous at best. I would encourage everyone to let Treyarch know that you are intersted in what that PC Support actually means. We have games to buy and servers to play and I know noone wants to spend a long summer waiting for THE game only to be dissapointed at the end again. There is a pledge and not a petition that is available to sign here. http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/cod7pledge/ If it is your cup of tea slap your name on it. Let Treyarch know that we are keeping our own best interests alive and are willing to spend our money. Somewhere.
